So, right now, Volkswagen Canada (motto: second only to Mazda when it comes to selling hatchbacks in Quebec! ) has a contest where, by finding the location of several Sportwagons and other items on a map, you can be entered to win a Sportswagon! Pretty cool, huh?
Not really. But the contest isn't the important thing here. Notice anything about the registration page?
No? Look a little closer.
That's right, all you have to do to click this button in order to prove that you're not a robot. But does it just bring up a text or audio captcha, cleverly hidden by years of experience in high-quality German ergonomics?

Hah, it's loading! Clearly that means the text box will appear any second now!

Oh. Well. Hm. It appears that Volkswagen has defeated years of spambot development with a simple button. For once, it looks like a German automotive company has gone and made something simpler .
And now, to win myself a wagon.

You mean an American company has gone and made something simpler.
ReCaptcha is Google, and that's a new text-less captcha they've been testing for a few months now. Good luck passing it without having to type something in if you aren't already logged into your Goggle account.

This is the first time I've seen it in use, and I just passed it without having my Google account signed in. Thanks for the information, though!

I saw the same Captcha for the first time on another site just the other day. So much better!

You must have a good amount of cookies from other sites then to prove you weren't a bot. It's something of a contextual captcha using a mixture of logins, cookies and behavioral analysis from said accounts and said cookies to determine whether you're a bot.
If none of that works, it does a fallback to the conventional squiggle text.

Huh, that's actually really smart.
